2017 Summer ADYLT in Cameroon

The African Deaf Youth Leadership Training (ADYLT) is a capacity building endeavor of STANDU which aims to empower young Deaf Africans to become effective leaders and advocates in their respective communities. The first event under this program was held in Yaoundé, Cameroon in July 2017. This week-long gathering brought together 17 young women and men from 5 of the 10 regions of the country.

The event was facilitated by two local Deaf women leaders, along with a STANDU representative. The participants had the chance to work together, network, discuss and tackle pressing issues that constitute barriers to the advancement of Deaf people in the country.

A highlight from this event is the formation of four different task forces that will address a specific problem in the months leading to the next gathering in the summer.
